PREFERRED SERVER MAXIOSIZE SHELL CONFIGURATION UPDATE FOR NETX v3.22 SHELLS Problem addressed: There are several statements listed below that are to be added to the configuration file at the work station and address the problem listed below. These statements added to the shell.cfg or net.cfg fix a problem when using the PREFERRED SERVER option where the PREFERRED SERVER is across a bridge. The bug causes the shell to use the physical transport size of the first server attached to, rather than the transport size of the PREFERRED SERVER. This bug is due to the 1-based vs. 0-based nature of server related tables in the shell. This bug is seen as a workstation hang when using the login utility. When the login is initiated, the preferred server information is updated in the shell's table. The problem occurs because the maximum packet size information is not updated to the preferred server packet size, but stays at the packet size of the first server seen by the workstation. This fix may also be required if a system slow-down is noticed due to connecting different topologies since the maximum packet size differs for various topologies. This fix changes the transport time. In the case where a LAN driver might return a false transport time of zero tics, the v3.22 NETX shells would believe this. These updated options in the shell.cfg add a 10 tic buffer zone to the transport time.
